'78 CB750.

A classic in some circles due to the historical significance of the CB model.
The 750 was the first mass-produced four-cylinder, world's first production streetbike with hydraulic disc brake. That's Honda's original superbike.

I am more interested in enjoying riding than in history for history's sake, so I'm working (slowly) on turning my (semi classic - see above) bike into the bike I want.

The CB750 has a motor that is renowned for taking punishment and keeping on ticking. A good start. The frame was built to big, thick, strong, high, and heavy. This we can work on a bit.

I'm not planning on doing anything particularly radical, not looking for a massively raked chopper, rather I want a ride that is comfortable for the long haul and keeping the performance that makes turns fun.

My Plans

  • Lower the back
    - Longer swingarm, lower shocks, and/or lowering blocks
  • Lower the seat
    - probably by cutting the rails and attaching them to a lower part of the frame
  • New Oil Tank
    - The stock one wont fit when I lower the seat
  • New Battery Box
    - The stock one wont fit when I lower the seat
  • Clean up all the plumbing under the seat
    - Just too many tubes and wires not to be consolidated in some way
  • Re forming the seat to fit the new geometry
    - Don't know if I want to fabricate this myself or buy a seat thats close to the shape I'm after
  • Change out the Handlebars
    - Back a couple inches, possibly short ape hangers
  • Fenders? Lights? Etc.

And the best information on how to do all of this is at Hondachopper.com. a Seriously Great Website!
