Celebration of Tim Dolan's Life by his brother, John
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Tim's older brother John.  On behalf of my family, I want to thank everyone for your expressions of concern and sympathy at this saddest of times.  We all loved Tim more than words can express, and it is a great comfort to know and hear how widely that love was shared.

One of Tim's best friends, Don Rutherford, summed up very well the feelings we are all trying so hard to articulate:

"I can't help feeling that this is so wrong, so unfair.  Tim - his indomitable spirit, his unbounded zest for life, and his Can Do attitude - is irreplaceable.  When my father died I discovered a quotation written in his address book that has always inspired me.  'That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children, who has filled his niche and accomplished his task, who leaves the world better than he found it.'  Tim is the most successful man I ever met yet there was so much more to come.  His death leaves us with a void that cannot be filled."

We will be bringing Tim back from Belgium to his hometown - Allentown, Pennsylvania - on Wednesday 5 September.  Our plan is to hold calling hours for family and friends on Thursday evening 6 September, and then a memorial service and burial for Tim on Friday morning 7 September.  Both the calling hours and memorial service will be held at Saint Anne's Episcopal Church in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania, near Allentown.  In another e-mail message to be sent by Wednesday, I will forward the exact times for these events, along with directions to Saint Anne's Church.

To honor Tim and his life, our family has established a scholarship fund. Its purpose will be to offer an opportunity for deserving graduates of William Allen High School, Tim's alma mater, to study and live in a foreign country for a period of growth and personal development during or immediately after their college educations.  The name of the fund will be the Timothy C. Dolan Memorial Scholarship Fund.  In lieu of flowers or other offerings, we request that donations be sent to:

The Timothy C. Dolan Memorial Scholarship Fund
c/o Rockwood
10203 Commonwealth Blvd.
Fairfax, VA 22032-2644
(703) 764-9579

We'd also appreciate hearing from all of you regarding the qualities students who might benefit from the scholarship fund should exhibit.  We think the qualities Don Rutherford named above are a perfect start, and we look forward to having you help us expand the description in Tim's indomitable spirit.

Finally, as part of our celebration of Tim's life on Friday, we would love to hear from his worldwide network of family and friends about his many different adventures with you.  Please bring along your best stories about Tim to share with everyone.  If you will not be able to join us in person, please don't hesitate to send your stories to me by reply e-mail message, and I will see that everyone hears them when we are together.

We hope to see you soon to celebrate Tim's life together.  Thank you again.

John

P.S.  We have tried to compile the e-mail addresses of as many of Tim's friends as possible, but inevitably we will miss somebody.  If you know of anyone else to whom this notice should be sent, please forward it immediately and copy me so that I can add that person's address to the main list.
