Rugby announcement:
COLORADO
SPRINGS, Colo. - May 30, 2001 - USA Rugby President Anne Barry
announced Army Master Sergeant Allen (Dean) Hahn, Northeastern
Territorial President Bruce Church and Army Major Fleming (Mike) Legg
as the organization's three newest USA Rugby Board of Directors (BOD).
"We
welcome these new board members from our territorial unions and from
the
military
community," USA Rugby President Anne Barry said. "With all
seven territorial presidents now seated on the BOD of USA Rugby, the
link between the territories and the national organization should be
complete."
Hahn,
a member of the U.S. Army since 1985, was elected by the Midwest
Territorial Union to take the recently vacated Midwest director seat
on the BOD. Hahn has played rugby for 10 years, most recently for the
Army, Armed Forces and Combined Services teams. A USA Rugby Level I
coach and referee, Hahn also serves as the president of the Iowa Local
Area Rugby Union.
Hahn
is a West Des Moines, Iowa resident and will graduate this fall with a
bachelor's degree in psychology from Upper Iowa University.
Bruce
Church, Northeastern Territorial President, was elected by the
Northeastern Territorial Union to take the recently vacated seat of
the Northeastern director on the BOD.
Church
began his rugby career in 1988 when he played for the Ithaca, New York
Wolves. He currently plays for the Johnson School Rugby Football Club.
Church
holds a PhD. in applied physics from Cornell University and now works
as a research assistant at Cornell.
Assuming
the Director of Military seat on the BOD, Mike Legg has over 20 years
of military and rugby experience and is currently the vice president
for the Washington Rugby Football Club.
Previously
Legg served as the team coach and captain for the Fort Bragg Rugby
Football Club, Fort Bragg, N.C. and was also the founder of the
Goodfellow Air Force Base Rugby Football Club, San Angelo, Texas, and
the Stud Dawg Rugby Football Club, Tacoma, Wash.
A
congressional liaison officer for special operations command in
Washington, D.C., Legg will serve as the director of military for the
remainder of 2001, as the former director stepped down. The seat will
be up this fall for general election for a two-year term commencing in
2002.
A
Falls Church, Va., resident, Legg got his rugby start in 1980 at James
Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va.
Hahn,
Church and Legg will all be seated at their first BOD meeting on June
30th at the BOD's Spring meeting.
USA
Rugby, founded in 1975, is the national governing body for rugby and
is a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the
International Rugby Board (IRB).
