2003 All Army Rugby Information:

This is from LTC Stephenson:

Just received confirmation from the HQDA Sports office in DC that the Army will fund a rugby trial camp at Ft Lewis, Wa, 11-19 October 2003 and will sponsor a team for the Armed Forces Championships which will be held at Everett NAS, WA from  20-26 Oct 2003.

Active Duty and RC soldiers are eligible.  Applications complete a DA 4762-R, this is on most form flow programs or may be picked up from the local MWR Sports office. These must be completed, signed by the applicant's Commander and turned into their local MWR Sports office.  The MWR office will forward to HQDA.  Application should reach HQDA Sports office in DC NLT 15 July 2003. RC players have additional requirements which may be found on the Army MWR webpage listed below. It is important for players to list on their application their current or most recent club and coach, any select side participation, and all position which they have experience, plus note their primary position.  ROTC & USMA Cadets are unfortunately not eligible for the camp or tournament.

A trial camp selection message will be sent the first part of September. The trial camp is only a week long and it is imperative soldiers show up in match fitness with solid game skills.   The final team is selected at the end of camp and is limited to 30 players. Army won the tournament from 1994 through 2001, but finished third last year.  Army will take pride in recapturing the Championship in October 2003.

The Army Sports office purchases plane tickets and pays for lodging during the camp and tournament.  Match and practice kit is provided.  Players must bring their own boots.  Players will eat in a Mess Hall and will receive a $5/day per diem for miscellaneous expenses.  Additional information may be found at the Army MWR site or at the link above.

Applications can be downloaded from that All Army Sports page:
